Needham / Newton Aikido Club - Home

Hello and welcome! We are the Needham / Newton Aikido Club, a group dedicated to the practice of Aikido in and around the Needham / Newton area. Classes are held Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights 6:30-8:00 as well as Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings from 7-8AM, and are appropriate for high school students and adults of all ages.

We strive for vigorous practice, but are always mindful to preserve a safe, clean, and friendly practice environment for all our members. We hope you'll take a moment to look over the site, and contact us to join up!
Aikido is a martial art from Japan that emphasizes throws and joint locks such as those seen in Judo and Jujutsu. Aikido practice is highly interactive in that most of class is spent working on techniques with a partner. Unlike other martial arts which involve sparring or wrestling matches, Aikido is not competitive.

As many of Aikido's fundamental movements are derived from traditional Japanese weapon work, club members will have the opportunity to practice with Jo and Bokken (staff/spear and wooden sword) as a supplement to normal class.

At the Club, we work together to create an open practice environment that is both safe and engaging for beginners, and challenging for more advanced students.

So, drop in, have some fun, get fit, and learn some Aikido! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us via our email address:

Thanks to Juba Nour Shihan of Baja Aikido, we had a great recent seminar on March 24, 2012. Please enjoy the video!

Free practices are in addition to normal classes, and are less formal. They give us an opportunity to experiment a little on each other. Please enjoy the clips!
